Rights Respecting School

At Cassop Primary School we pride ourselves on being a nurturing and caring environment, putting children at the heart of everything we do. We want children to leave our school as confident citizens of the world, ready to achieve any ambition.

We are excited to help empower our children by starting a journey towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School.

A Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.

The Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) is based on the principles of dignity, equality, respect, non-discrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s ethos and culture in order to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.

In order to do this, we all need to work together as a whole community to discuss these rights with the children. Further information about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the RRSA can be found on the UNICEF website.

We have been awarded our Recognition of Commitment and are now working towards the Level 1 award.
